You are applying for the Diploma in Primary Emergency Care of the College of Emergency Medicine of South Africa .

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ADMISSION TO CMSA EXAMINATIONS

(to be read in conjunction with the relevant Regulations)

 

1.             You may obtain your examination application forms (in duplicate) from the CMSA offices in Johannesburg, Cape Town or Durban, by calling, writing, telephoning/faxing or emailing

 

2.             PLEASE OBTAIN IN GOOD TIME PROPER CERTIFICATES (SIGNED BY THE HEAD OF DEPARTMENT) FOR THE TRAINING CALLED FOR BY THE REGULATIONS, AND ATTACH THEM TO YOUR APPLICATION.  Applications offering inadequate or uncertificated/unrecognised training, or which in other respects display ignorance of the regulations, will be returned less a 10% handling fee

 

3.             Please also attach two recent passport-size photographs.  Both photographs must bear your name in BLOCK LETTERS on the back and one photograph must be certified as a true photograph of yourself either by a Commissioner of Oaths or by a Justice of the Peace.  On acceptance of your application the CMSA will certify the other photograph and it will be used on your numbered examination card which you should produce at all examination sessions.

 

4.             The examination fee is on a separate schedule.  Please check current rates.  Fees are only payable by cash, credit card and Electronic transfer. Proof of payment must be attached to all application forms.  NO cheques will be accepted.

 

5.             Your completed application forms including certified statements where required, passport-size photographs and correct examination fee must reach the CMSA before or on 15 January and 15 June for the March/May and September/October examinations respectively.  You may deliver your application to our Johannesburg, Cape Town or Durban office but if you post it, we recommend you register it.  If your examination is not in one of our offices by 12:00 pm on the closing date, it will be returned unopened.

 

For sub-specialties, notification of entry to the examination is six months before the written examinations ie  30 September for the March/May and 31 March for the September/October sets of examinations.

 

6.             NO LATE APPLICATIONS will be considered

 

7.             Requests for withdrawal, if received in writing before the closing date, will be granted and the examination fee will be refunded less a 10% handling fee.    

 

                A deferred or unutilised fee will only be held by the CMSA until the next set of examinations, when it will be forfeited unless a specific recommendation has been received from the Examinations and Credentials Committee for a refund.

 

8.             Regarding the examination:

 

a)            during all written sessions cellphones must be switched-off and lodged with the chief invigilator

b)            during all oral sessions cellphones must not be in the candidates possession

c)             unsuccessful candidates may request, in writing, an identification of questions or sections failed.             If practicable this information will be supplied

d)            re-marking of papers or supplementary examinations will not be considered

e)             candidates who stammer, suffer from writer’s cramp etc, should indicate and certificate this with their applications so that the CMSA, wherever possible, can arrange to accommodate them prior to the examination

 

9.             Fellowship candidates who are in doubt whether the posts they occupy or intend occupying are acceptable for examination admission and/or specialist registration (they are separate issues) should enquire from the CMSA as to the former, and from the Health Professions Council of South Africa, PO Box 205, Pretoria, 0001, telephone 012 328-6680, as to the latter
