Examination Structure
- Primary: FCS(SA) Primary 2 MCQ papers, no oral examination.
- Intermediate: 2 written papers and 2 orals.
- Final: 3 written papers; Clinical and/or oral and/or OSCE.
Medals
The J M EDELSTEIN MEDAL was endowed by the late Prof Edelstein, Associate Founder of the CMSA, in 1966 and is awarded to candidates who show a very high standard of proficiency in the Fellowship examination of the College of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Requirements
- Primary: - Successful completion of the Basic Surgical Skills course prior to applying for the examination.
- Intermediate: - 18 months surgical training in approved posts. Must include 6 months general surgery and 12 months orthopaedic surgery. ATLS required at the time of applying for the Intermediate examination.
- Final: - 36 months in a numbered registrar training post. Letter from HOD confirming completion and acceptance of Portfolio.
